Sep-15-07 | | Wolfgang01: Okay, they agreed with a draw. |

 | | Peligroso Patzer: Here is the link to Anand's game mentioned in my previous post for anyone who might be interested. Anand vs Kramnik, 2007 |
Sep-15-07 | | acirce: Congratulations to Lékó for saving a very difficult endgame and to Gelfand for getting a fine draw with Black and defending the colours of the glorious Petroff. With this game and Leko vs Mamedyarov, 2007 Lékó has played two of the longest top-level draws this year. |

 | | boz: I admire leko. I always thought he was pretty good with his queen. |
Sep-15-07 | | swissfed: Leko is also a very very tough player |

Time control: 40 moves in 2 hours, followed by 20 moves in one hour, followed by 15 minutes plus 30 seconds for all the remaining moves (40/2h, 20/1h, 15m+30sec/all). from TWIC Mark Crowther |

Sep-15-07
 | | boz: Leko played 42 checks from move 47 to 100. |
Sep-15-07 | | chessamateur: <boz> I wish we could say the same for Topalov. Sorry couldn't resist. |
Sep-15-07 | | strifeknot: Another great game today. I don't want to hear any whining about this being a draw or a Petroff. |
Sep-15-07 | | Chessmensch: <tamar> Thanks very much for replying at this late hour. |
Sep-15-07
 | | boz: The Petroff can be interesting, but you have to wait a long time. |
Sep-15-07 | | Confuse: <tamar> FREE FRIES!!! :D |

Sep-16-07
 | | WannaBe: My goodness, Boris played 11...Nxf3. I made a comment on that in the Anand game! Anand vs Gelfand, 2007 Second post. |
Sep-16-07 | | Ulhumbrus: Instead of 9 0-0-0, 9 Be2 avoids letting Black wreck White's King side pawns by the exchange ...Nxf3+ |
Sep-16-07 | | willychess: What it´s the reason for 24 ... gxf6 by black? Why not Qxf6?. Maybe the move reduce the tension along the g file. But is it justified doubling the kingside pawns?. Please i need deeper minds. Thanks |
Sep-16-07 | | mack: <Eyal> Well found, Mrs Brock! |
Sep-16-07 | | pawnofdoom: Great game by gelfand! Too bad he couldn't win it. |
Sep-16-07 | | slomarko: the later part of this game was highly comical if a little bit boring. i mean with a h-pawn there is no way to escape perpetual however its a well known fact but seems not everybody knew that fact. <acirce: Unfortunately it's Gelfand who has great winning chances now. Lékó should have kept repeating moves.> great winning chances? like where? <acirce: <Boomie> That feels like it would be a pretty comfortable win for Black.>
yeah hehehe
<acirce: I feel this is very close to already. Will be very, very hard to save, in any event.>
very, very hard to save? LOL
<acirce: I think Gelfand is winning rather easily now.>
LOL. "rather easily."
<acirce: <If it's that easy, Leko wouldn't be playing, would he?>
Why not? As for the 'plan', it's pretty straightforward, so we should be talking concrete lines.>
straightforward LOL
<acirce: Yes, I probably underestimated White's resources. He should win, though.>
acirce starts to wake up
<acirce: I still can't find a clear win. Quite fascinating. Is there a miracle defence?>
and now he realised he didnt have a clue what was going on but to save face there is talk of "miracle" defence. <acirce: Well that's something I did not expect around move 65-70 but it looks like Lékó saves it> this game looked a complete draw around move 50 for crying out loud! |
Sep-16-07 | | euripides: <with a h-pawn there is no way to escape perpetual however its a well known fact but seems not everybody knew that fact.> If White had no pawns, then the h pawn on the 7th rank would often win, depending on the position of the white king. |
Sep-16-07 | | Red October: actually I found this game more interesting than Kramnik - Moro ... |
Sep-16-07 | | cannibal: <slomo>, you twit, who has no idea how to play chess. What exactly are you bragging with? During the game you said "draw" (and nothing else, no lines, no reasons, nothing), and so it came. Big deal. Why does that give you such a mighty orgasm? Btw, Urosevic, commenting on chessdom.com thought it was winning, too, at least at one moment, but of course he's no match-up for you. (And if you really wanna know: the reason for the draw was certainly not just that it was an h-pawn. Take the final position without the white pawns (you can even move the black one back to h5, and check with a database if you like) |
Sep-16-07 | | slomarko: <Take the final position without the white pawns (you can even move the black one back to h5, and check with a database if you like)> well yeah genius but the pawns were there. |
Sep-16-07 | | rover: <willychess> if Qxf6 Rf4 seems to win the pawn on f7 after Qd6. (Qg5? Qd3+ Kh8 Rxf7 is even worse) <acirce: defending the colours of the glorious Petroff.> You are just trying to wind people up, aren't you? :) But it has to be said that the Petroff produced two very interesting games today. |
Sep-17-07 | | Resignation Trap: The look of determination is evident on Gelfand's expression here: http://www.chesspro.ru/_images/mate... . |
Sep-18-07 | | Resignation Trap: According to Igor Lysyj on http://www.chesspro.ru/_events/2007... , when Gelfand missed 75...Qf3!, his winning chances disappeared. |
