Sep-20-07  Necessary Truths: Incomplete game score?
Feb-23-12  Cardinal Fang: <Necessary Truths> No, the game score is complete and correct. In fact, Bosboom offered a draw after playing 3. ... Bg4, and resigned after the computer played 4. Nc3.

In 2000 the Dutch National Chess Federation made the controversial decision to allow Fritz to participate in the national championship. To be precise, it was an experimental version of Fritz, called Fritz SSS, whose sponsors had sweetened the prize pot by 70,000 guilders in exchange.

It's been semi-inaccurately reported that the only competitor to refuse to play against it was Paul van der Sterren (who also refused to turn up for the opening ceremony).

This game is from that Dutch championship. In effect, Bosboom was refusing to play against the computer as well. Unlike van der Sterren, however, he was not disqualified from the increased prize pot, which was offered conditional on competitors playing against Fritz.

I think it's a shame that the database does not yet also include Fritz (Computer) vs Paul van der Sterren (2000), 0 moves, 1-0.

Sally Simpson: Manuel Bosboom plays a few more moves than Carlsen in Niemann vs Carlsen, 2022 before resigning.

In this case Black's protest against suspected computer use appears to be justified.
