Jul-13-07  russep: WHy not 17.d5??
Jul-13-07  danielpi: <russep><WHy not 17.d5??>

Hmm... well, I'm seeing 17. d5 Nb4 18. dxe6 Nxc2 19. exf7 Rxf7 20. Rc1 Nxe3 21. Rxe3 Qb7...

Looks like black is okay. Material is still equal. I don't think White can make hay with the c-file before Black moves a rook to c8 to challenge it, he has an extra (albeit backward) central pawn, and the f-rook has better scope...

Chessical: <Russep> The move has been tried before and found lacking, e.g.

Geller vs Ivkov, 1965

After <17.d5> Nb4 18.dxc6 Qxc2 19. exf7+ Kxf7 20.Ng5 Kg8, white has very little.
