May-11-07  virginmind: why did nisi play so passive? he had white and appeared as decided for a draw all along the game.

indeed...

but one must remember that chess at this level is very exhausting when playing in a tournament which doesnt allow draws early in the game.

perhaps Nisipeanu thought that after his win yesterday he could sit back today and have a somewhat rest day today.

Mateo: Nisipeanu came near from a loss. It is difficult to understand why he did not protect his h pawn with 33.h5 and why, after 33.♗d3?, Kamsky didn't play 33...♗xh4. Could it be that both players saw a ghost on the board?

Later it is hard to understand why Kamsky played 35...♗c3?, giving back the pawn. A better attempt to win would have been 35...♖xh4 36.♖c8+ ♔g7 37.c6 ♗b6. After 38.♖xd5 ♖a1 39.♖e5 ♖h6 40.♔g2 ♖g6+ 41.♔h3 ♖c1, Black wins the c pawn, but there might be not enough material to win.
