  plang: Played in the 4th round; in the 2nd round Lutz had tried 19 a3 against Shirov and the game had ended in a draw. This game was balanced until 33..Ne6?; 33..h6 would have maintained equality. 35..Qxe3? 36 fxe..dxe 37 Ke1..Kd7 38 Kd2 would have resulted in a winning endgame for White. After 46 Kd2? White's winning chances were gone; the following win was pointed out by Max Notkin: 46 h4..c4 47 Kd2..c3+ 48 Kc1..cxb+ 49 Kxb2..bxa+ 50 Kxa3..Bc2 51 Bxa4..Bf5 52 Kb4..g6 53 Kc5..Kg7 54 Kd6..Kf7 55 Bb3..Bd4 56 Bc2..Bh3 57 f5!..gxf 58 Bb3..f4 59 gxf..Nf5 60 Bd1..Bg4 61 Bc2..Bh3 62 f5!..Bxf5 63 Bxf5..exf 64 Kd7..f4 65 e6.
