Domdaniel: A very, very nice blockade game. The <Spirit of Saint Nimzo> award for this month goes to Maslak.

The alternation between the a- and h-files before the final breakthrough at g7 (initiated on the far side of the board with 53.b6+!) is really excellent.

Feb-24-07  mack: Delightful; I wish I'd been white, it would have an awful lot of fun. I presume if 53...Kxb6 then 54.Bxa5+ Kxa5 55.Qb2 or 54...Ka6 55.Qa2

Domdaniel: Yep, 53.b6+! is when the fun really starts, but it took a lot of the old boa constriction to get there. I'd probably have dimly gone 53.Bxa5+? and drawn horribly.

If 53...Kxb6, yes, 54.Bxa5+ is murderous. 54...Kxa5? 55.Qb2 Bd7 56.Ra1+ Ba4 57.Qb5#, for example. Or 54...Ka7 55.Qa2 b6 56.Bxb6+ and Black is toast.

I like the way the white queen zips from a8-a1-h1-h7 to deliver the coup de grass. If ...Qf8, then Bh6 forces the g-pawn through.

Hmm. I like this better the more I look at it...

OhioChessFan: Fabulous game. Got here from a game collection of Dom's. Might get back here and analyze it a little.
