Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-01-08  RPGmaster60: Fantastic Pun. Love Fleetwood Mac's Music.
Mar-01-08  wouldpusher: I don't see a clear win here. Sure after 29. ... ♔e8 30. ♕g7 ♕e7 31. ♖xf6 ♕xg7 32. hxg7 ♔e7 33. ♖ff1 White is a pawn up with the better position, but is it really time to resign?
Mar-01-08  jovack: Another premature resign... Black should have moved his king to e8 White looks very threatening, and yes, I think he is winning slightly, but black could have made a recovery.

my proposed continuation
Qg7 Rd8 (defending white taking knight then mate by threatening back rank) Rdf1 Rd7 (most likely?)
then
queen can take knight, or give check at h8

overall, I still think black had a lot to play, even though it was leading to eventual loss

Mar-01-08  Manic: Well I played it through on fritz which suggests a forced win. The main aim is to get a rook on the 7th after <wouldpusher's> line with 33.Rdf1 instead of Rff1. After 33...Rg8 34.Rf7+ white will use the rooks to force the black king to the back rank, and then white puts both rooks on the 7th, paralysing black, and then push the e-pawn to protect. 34...Kd6 (or e6) 35.Rf8 Ke7 36.R1f7+ Ke6 37.Rf6+ Ke7 38.R8f7+ Ke8.

Now both rooks are stuck (if a6 followed by Ra6, white plays Rf8+! Rxf8 Rb8+ followed by gxf8=Q) and white plays pawn to e6 followed by Rb-d7 (checking to get there) and then Rf8+ will mate.

Granted, it is probably true that black resigned a bit too early and probably should've waited to see if white would see the plan. But seeing as it was correspondence perhaps black just could not be bothered playing on or perhaps he saw the winning plan, assumed white would see it and resigned to save them both time.

Mar-01-08  Samagonka: I wish I could use my pawns as effectively as Mr. Fleetwood.
Mar-01-08  kevin86: Fleetwood Mac-a good group (I heard RUMORS to that affect).I hope the TUSKS are ready for a charge.

Black's knight was as helpless as a kitten up a tree.(different singer, oops) The whole white attack seemed to focus on the poor cavalry.

Mar-01-08  samhudson: Best pun ever
Mar-01-08  drpoundsign: That game was over my head...

You can call it blunder...

Don't stop thinking about Kasparov...

I could go on and on.

Oct-19-08  detjo: lol .. he certainly wouldnt resign because he 'couldnt be bothered'

It was obviously felt that the game was lost at that stage.

May-17-13  detjo: Actually, he probably couldn't be bothered. This game was apparently played in 1999 when Johnson was playing in the World Championships and saw this as a minor interference.
