Kibitzer's Corner
May-08-06  Marvol: Maybe I'm an idiot, but why 42.c3xd4?

Why break up two perfectly happy pawns in one island into two isolated pawns?

Am I lacking knowledge or the computer?

May-08-06  mang00neg: rxc4 may have offered more practical chances in retrospect, but the idea behind cxd4 appears to be to restrict the black bishop + gets a passed 1 tempo closer to queening. black really plays with precision here at the end, would be easy to blow this position i think, especially after the A pawn falls.
May-11-06  ckmneon: 53. Rxd7 is better than the move played.
[53...Kxd7 54. Kxh4] it would seem that being up a bishop (although down 2 pawns) would give black a decisive advantage, but it does not. I can't find any clear lines for black. It seems like white would have an easier time promoting its b-pawn or f-pawn than black would of freeing and promoting its pawn.
