  Breunor: I went for 38 Rg8.
Oct-23-23  saturn2: the white squares around to king are weak Rg8 leads to mate
Oct-23-23  whiteshark: 39.Qg4+, and that's it.
Oct-23-23  TheaN: Bit embarras des richesses here, <39.Qg4+ with 40.Qg8#> is #2, but 39.Rg8+ straightaway works too because of 39....Kh7 40.Qd3+ #2. Black left his king alone, and pays the price.

Oct-23-23  Damenlaeuferbauer: After long thinking, Alexey Shirov's 3rd wife WIM Olga Dolgova finally found the mate in 2 moves with the nice rook sacrifice 39.Qg4+!,Kxf8 (39.-,Kh7 40.Qg8#) 40.Qg8#.

I know this is how you write down your solutions, but I sincerely doubt she thought very long here, Black's absolutely toast.

I was wondering at what points the evaluation changed drastically, because Black's position is a horror show early on. Interestingly, 21....Bxg2? (+0.5 > +2.5) was the start of the demise, as it hands White the bishop pair unopposed and Black's king is weak. 21....f6 ⩲ would have kept it relatively even though it's unpleasant to play for Black. 23....f5 (+2.5 > +3.5) didn't help. 27....Bf8 was a futile attempt to defuse the attack (+3.5 > +7) and finally 28....Qb5 (+13) pretty much led in the ending: White correctly kept up pressure and it payed off.

Check It Out: I went for the more convoluted 39.Bxh6, but it wins.
