Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-17-21  njchess: Strange. "There is no kibitzing for this page, yet." Something tells me there is a back end error generating the kibitzing log. I had to choose between the Black bishops. I settled on 25. ... ♗h3. This led to 26. ♗xh6 ♗xg2 27. ♗xg7 ♗xf3+ 28. ♔d2 ♕f4+ 29. ♔c2 ♗xd1+ 30. ♖xd1 ♔xg7 -+ As it turned out, it was the game line.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Have noticed that in the KID, Black?s Bc8 (ostensibly the ?good? Bishop) has nothing to do for almost the entire game, until it tries to sacrifice itself on h3. Funny how a good Bishop can remain so bad until it?s gone.

al wazir: 29. Re3 is probably a stronger defense, but it still loses:

29...Bxd1 30. Rb1 Qf2+ 31. Be2 (31. Ne2 Bxe2 32. Rxe2 Qf4+ 33. Re3 Kxg7) g2 32. Rxd1 g1=Q 33. Rxg1 Qxg1 34. Bxf8 Kxf8.

Jun-17-21  stacase: I got the first five moves, but instead of 30...Kxg7 I would have used the Knight, 30...Nxg7
Jun-17-21  agb2002: The pawn on g2 protects f3 and is defenseless. This suggests 25... Bxe3 26.Kxe3 Qf4+ 27.Ke2 Bh3:

A) 28.Rg1 Bxg2 29.Rxg2 Qxf3+ wins decisive material.

B) 28.Qd2 Bxg2 29.Qxf4 Rxf4 followed by Bxf3 wins two pawns at least.

  sjunto: According to Stockfish 12, 25. . . . Bh3 is a bit better than my choice, 25. . . . Bxe3. Either way (and a few others) Black has a huge advantage.
Jun-17-21  Walter Glattke: A) 25.-Bg4 26.Bxh6 Qxh6 27.Qd2 (fxg4? Rf2#) Qxd2+ 28.Kxd2 Bxf3 29.gxf3 Rxf3 30.Ne2 h4 31.R4b1 Nf6 32.Ng1 Rf2+ 33.Kd1 Nh5 34.Re2 Nf4 B) 25.-Bg4 2 pawns are always stronger than Bd3, very big lots of possible continuations C) 25.-Bh3 26.Kf1 (gxh3? Qf3#) Qxf3+ 27.Qxf3 Rxf3+ 28.Kg1 Bxe3+ 29.Rxe3 gxh3 30.gxh3 Rxd3 one rook Best move fot white: Resign, lots of winning moves also here
Jun-17-21  Walter Glattke: Corr C) 29.-Rxe3 of course
Jun-17-21  Brenin: After 25 ... Bh3, if White declines the B sac with 26 Kf1 then White can either retreat the B and advance the h-pawn, or continue the attack without Qs by 26 ... Qxf3+ 27 Qxf3 Rxf3+ 28 Kg1 Bxe3+, e.g. 29 Rxe3 Rxe3 30 gxh3 Rxd3, taking advantage of undefended White pieces on d3, c3 and b4.
Jun-17-21  Nov8: Can't comment for the moves cuz chess engine used by chessgames.com is not working properly
Jun-17-21  agb2002: In my rush I forgot to include the line for 28.gxh3.

More careful tomorrow.

Jun-17-21  dhotts: So many ways for Black to win!...I liked 25...Bxe3 26.Kxe3 Qg5+ 27.Ke2 Bg4 and White will soon capitulate as Black marches his h-pawn down.

Dionysius1: Hi <dhotts>. I prefer your solution. Though I'd leave the h pawn alone until after 28. ♖f1 and exchanges on the f file. With Black planting his ♖ on f2, White's g pawn goes, and Black's g and h pawn combo rolls home, no?
Jun-17-21  mel gibson: I didn't see that -
I should have looked longer.
I thought 25... BxB
and that is still a good move according to Stockfish.

Stockfish 13 follows exactly the game line:

25... Bh3

(25. .. Bh3
(♗c8-h3 g2xh3 ♕f6xf3+ ♔e2-d2 ♕f3-f2+ ♕d1-e2 ♗h6xe3+ ♔d2-c2 g3-g2 ♖b4-b1 ♗e3-d4 c4-c5 ♕f2-h4 c5xb6 a7xb6 ♕e2-d2 ♕h4xh3 ♖b1-d1 ♖f8-f2 ♘c3-e2 h5-h4 ♔c2-b1 ♗d4-e3 ♕d2-b4 ♕h3-g4 ♘e2-g1 ♗e3-c5 ♕b4-b5 ♘e8-f6 a2-a4 h4-h3 ♘g1xh3 ♕g4xh3 ♖e1-g1 ♗c5-d4 ♖d1-c1 ♖f2-b2+ ♕b5xb2 ♗d4xb2 ♖c1-d1 ♗b2-d4 ♗d3-c2 ♗d4xg1 ♖d1xg1 ♔g8-h7 a4-a5 b6xa5) +10.32/45 930)

score for Black +10.32 depth 45.

Jun-17-21  Cellist: I considered 25. ... Bxe3, 26. Kxe3 followed by Qf4+ and Bg4 and thought that this would likely win. I also looked at 25. ... Bg4 and 25. ... Bh3 as first moves but felt Black was on less secure ground, although in all of these cases, Black's pressure on the kingside is strong and likely decisive. I cannot check the engine, but I have the impression that there are several winning moves for Black.
Jun-17-21  raymondhow: I got the first six moves, then would have played 31... g2. My first solve this week, oddly enough. Also I believe this is my first puzzle kibbutz. Hello all!
Jun-17-21  raymondhow: Oops I meant kibitz. Darn that Google Voice..
Jun-17-21  saturn2: Found 25....Bh3 which attacks the white pawn chain at its origin.
Jun-17-21  messachess: Nice, clever attack.
Jun-17-21  alshatranji: 28. Kf1 seems at first to provide better means of escape, but then 28...Bg2+ leads to some beautiful mate formations. I didn't see this; I was planning in response to 28. Kf1 on 28...Qh4, which I see now doesn't work.
Jun-17-21  Refused: A typical KID position. Just throw everything at the king's position until collapses.

25...Bh3! always attack a pawn chain at its root as Nimzovich pointed out. I fail to see an adequate defense for white.

a) 26.gxh3 Qxf3+ 27.Ke2 Qf2+ at the very least already regains a bishop with the k-side pawns doing their kid and just keep on rolling.

b) 26.Rg1 Bxg2 makes things just worse

c) the best try is probably 26.Bxh6 Bxg2 and here it's a matter of counting. 27.Bxg7 Bxf3+ 28.Kd2 Qf4+ 29.Kxc2 Bxd1+ -+ (28. Kf1 Qh4!! is curtains)
