  Honza Cervenka: Very interesting continuation is 13.Nxe5!? Nxb3 (13...Bxd1?? 14.Bxf7+ Ke7 15.Nd5# or 15.Bg5#) 14.Qxg4 Nxa1 15.Nxf7!? (15.Bxg5 is okay too.) 15...Kxf7 16.Bxg5 Be7 [16...Qc8 17.Qh5+ Ke6 18.Bf6!! Rg8 (18...Kxf6 19.Nd5+ with mate.) 19.Bh4! Kd7 (what else against threatening 20.Qf5#?) 20.Qf7+ and white wins.] 17.Qh5+ Ke6 (of course, not 17...Kg8 18.Bh6 with next 19.Rg1 ) 18.Qh3+ Kf7 19.Bxe7! Qxe7 [or 19...Kxe7 20.Nd5+ Ke8 (20...Kf7 21.Rg1 Qc8 22.Qf3+ Ke8 23.Rg7 ) 21.Qe6+ Kf8 22.Qh6+ Ke8 (22...Kf7 23.Rg1 ) 23.Qg7 Qh4+ 24.Kg2 Rf8 25.Nxc7+ Kd8 26.Ne6+ Ke8 27.Qxf8+ Kd7 28.Qf7+ Qe7 29.Qxe7+ Kxe7 30.Nd4 winning the Knight a1 and the game.] 20.Nd5 Qe5+ (20...Qg5 21.Rg1 would be even worse.) 21.f4 Qe6 (21...Qg7 22.Rg1 ) 22.Qxe6+ Kxe6 23.Nxc7+ Kf7 24.Nxa8 Nxc2 25.Nb6 Nb4 26.Rf3 Rb8 (26...Nxa3 27.Nd5 ) 27.a3 Nxd3 28.Rxd3 Rxb6 29.Kg3 with advantage of white in endgame.

14.Nxg5+ was a blunder. 14.Nxe5+ was necessary.

Oct-14-08  waustad: <Honza Cervenka>Are you any relation to Oskar Cervenka (sp?) the Basso who sang often at the Wiener Stadtsoper in the 1979s?
May-31-12  thomastonk: <Honza Cervenka> 13. Nxe5! Nxb3 14.Qxg4 Nxa1 15.Bxg5! Qc8 16.Qf4! dxe5 17.Qxe5+ Qe6 18.Qxh8 Kd7 19.f4 Nxc2 20.Nd5!

But 14... Nxc1 15.Nf3 b4 (idea Ne2) 16.Nd5 c6 17.Nxb4 Ne2 is a serious alternative for Black, though he is then worse, too.

BTW, 10.. g5? is an incredible bad move.

Jan-25-22  TheFocus: Steinitz's analysis in International Chess Magazine here reads: <For after 23. Rxf6+ Kg5, White cannot answer …Rxa6, on account of the reply …Rf8, and whatever else White may do, the advance of Blacks h-pawn is bound to win soon.>

Shouldn't it instead read: <For after 23. Rxf6+ Rxf6 24. Rxf6+ Kg5, White cannot answer …Rxa6, on account of the reply …Rf8, and whatever else White may do, the advance of Blacks h-pawn is bound to win soon.>
