WannaBe: < Robed.Bishop: Imagine what kind of server space CG could recover by deleting LMAJ's games and the associated posts... >

On a relative term, not much... (I am sure CG.com have its server(s) virtualized, backed up every night, if not more often. and knowning they are in Florida, the next major hurricane that comes along, we won't feel a thing.)

It's the one-fly on a buffalo's rear-end. Whether it is an Asian water buffalo, or North American Bison.

Annoy, keeps coming back, and coming back, and coming back, but on/as a whole, really better off just ignoring it.

And let it live its' own happy little life, in its own little 'universe' and live and let live.

If you don't respond, it will only be the echo coming back... coming back... coming back...

Of course! Such garbage could not be allowed to remain on this site.

If the shoe fits........

Sep-13-11  solskytz: <Perfidious: For most folks, the question arises: why would one wish to have 100 such slots?>

well I can't really relate to that, having nobody on ignore, and with no immediate or long-term plans to place there anybody...

I see no reason absolutely to ignore people 'officially' as in an ignore list... when I want to not-answer a post I can do it discreetly, and when I want to not-read a post, nothing can be easier...

but to each their tastes, I guess

I don't think AJ can cost chessgames anything.

Chessgames is a gem of a site. Their creators are absolute geniuses, as they provide us, the users, a dream environment to chat in, to study, compare, consult - a real chess heaven!

They were right in getting my posts off of the chessgames page, as this really isn't the place.

If someone needs to complain against AJ (I know I'm not going to as I don't suffer personally from anything related to him), they should blow the whistle.

Then, if the CG staff decide to remove AJ temporarily or otherwise - better for all.

If they decide to keep him in - I love them just the same.

tpstar: <solskytz> Your posts were very good, and sincere attempts to make things better and not worse. =)

The recurring problem with these bicker threads is how the reference game gets totally ignored while the kibitzing concentrates on the personalities involved, creating an endless cycle. It would not surprise me at all if the site blocked all kibitzing on his games for months, like before. Despite whatever "entertainment" value there is for lurkers, policing these pages really is a major waste of their time.

FSR: <perf> I believe it. The song came out in 1977. I first heard it last year, and said, "OMG - why have I never heard this song?! I love this song!"

'Close to the bone', in the eyes of the wonderful <DrMALefactor>, might be termed anything which doesn't offer to kiss his ring, all the while proclaiming that he's one of the two greatest players in history and that you're fortunate to be granted an audience by his supreme genius.

FSR: <perfidious> With deities like DrMAL, it's traditional to use capital letters: His Supreme Genius. Actually, even that seems inadequate. It probably should be HIS SUPREME GENIUS. And bold font if you can figure out a way to do that.

perfidious: <FSR> You're right, of course-my only hope of avoiding perdition is to prostrate myself before His Highness and hope a bolt of lightning from On High does not smite me.
Sep-13-11  Robed.Bishop: <tpstar: The recurring problem with these bicker threads is how the reference game gets totally ignored while the kibitzing concentrates on the personalities involved, creating an endless cycle.>

I agree that the game gets ignored and that the bickering is an endless cycle. I don't agree that it is a problem. As I have stated before, I am not in favor of ignoring AJ. I know that not everyone agrees with this and that not everyone wants to be involved in confrontation.

<Despite whatever "entertainment" value there is for lurkers, policing these pages really is a major waste of their time.>

I find the bickering entertaining and I'm happy to join in when I'm in the mood or when I feel the need to comment. I really don't care at all that the bickering due to AJ wastes the time of CG's staff. It provides them with job security, and if it becomes too much, well then all CG has to do is eliminate the source of the problem - remove AJ or remove his games. As I've stated before, he doesn't often post on others' games.

It is a shame for those that care about his games that they have to wade through other comments. But it boils down to a choice: choose to review the game through the comments, or don't. Given the probability that there will be unrelated comments in these games, perhaps the faint of heart should avoid them altogether.

I fully understand that not all users of this site agree with this approach. I'm not asking you to agree and I don't mind that you post your disagreement, nor am I insulted that you don't agree with me. Reasonable minds may differ.

Sep-13-11  Robed.Bishop: <LMAJ: I personally am not so sure about (some) people's intentions, there is no doubt a few have been only interested in "stirring the pot.">

Just between you and me, LMAJ, I have multiple intentions. The vagueness of your post will help keep all of this secret. Shhh, don't tell the others.

Sep-13-11  TheFocus: Well, I know that intention of some of us is to mock, ridicule and insult you.

A case of tit for tat. You feel that it is okay to insult others, but you don't want any of it hurled back at you.

And by the way, <AJ>, if you want to know why I m so on you, it is because you lied to the Admins about me stalking you and leaving posts about you all over the site. Even your friends and supporters were on you about that. I notice you didn't dare mention me again.

You want me to fade way, come to my Forum and apologize to me about these charges, which were false.

After that, I will put you on IGNORE and give you safe passage.

perfidious: All this would disappear in time if one particular poster were simply to desist in his behaviour towards others, by turns condescending, unpleasant, outright rude and lacking in humanity.

A number of posters have been driven away from CG and I don't blame them, but I've no intention of legitimising all this by turning away from it; my silence for several years effectively condoned the goings-on.

Sep-13-11  Colonel Mortimer: <Life Master AJ> should be suspended for a month or so. This would give him time to reflect on his internet behaviour.
Sep-13-11  I play the Fred: Might I make an unpopular post?

I am not, and likely never will be, sympathetic to <AJ Goldsby>. Thus, I rather frequently enjoy the contributions of the people he often bumps heads with: alphabetically, <Colonel Mortimer> (in his various guises), <FSR>, <perfidious>, <TheFocus>, and many others I'm not remembering at the moment. You might describe this group, plus myself, a loose affiliation because of our common "interest".

Why then was I siding with <AJ> over the beard comment?

1) <Colonel Hayton> has shown himself to be a master of the intelligent insult; the beard remark was far below his usual standard.

2) Leaving <AJ>'s hypocracy to one side, was the <Col's> remark really something fit for general audiences? I'm definitely not in favor of Disney-fying speech here, but the imagery of that comment went rather far beyond a simple curse word. And I'd rather not see us lower the bar around here just to tick off one guy.

3) There was an unfortunate implication to the <Col.>'s comment - the idea that sexual practices among gay men are something to be mocked. I know that's not what the <Col.> or anyone else thinks; is a <newcomer to the site> aware that no offense toward gays was meant with that comment?

Make no mistake - I'm not now in AJ's corner or anything close. Let me put it this way: we're on one football team and <AJ> is on the other. All we have do to win, and win easily, is play our game; why on earth do we need to grab guys by the facemask?
