Mar-12-08  porgue: i wish i could play like pillsbury...
Sep-18-08  Xeroxx: i wish i like pillsbury could play...
Sep-23-08  TheTamale: Black missed a great opportunity to equalize. 1) ...f6! That gives his king an escape route. Otherwise Black is toast.
Dec-25-08  whiteshark: Do not Harry!
Jan-16-09  WhiteRook48: maybe Von Bardeleben thought: "Oh no, I'll be checkmated by force on move 88! I know- I'll get sick!"
Feb-23-09  Dredge Rivers: Whew! I thought this game would NEVER end!
Feb-23-09  Calli: <would NEVER end!>

I feel the same way about the kibitzing on this page.

Mar-08-09  chessman95: Wow, maybe I'll start playing 1.d4 more often.
Mar-08-09  blacksburg: pillsbury ATTACK!!!!
Mar-08-09  chessman95: Queen's Pawn "Win"
Dec-25-09  bastiaan0740: i need to memorize this brilliancy!
Dec-25-09  Sularus: D4 = Done for
Dec-25-09  Sularus: Game of That Century
Apr-14-10  Juni: The black player missed a win via

1... d5
2. c4

etc.

Apr-14-10  Milzgebaren: I know this opening.
Aug-07-10  Grantchamp: What a piece of brilliancy...
Aug-22-10  soothsayer8: To be fair to Bardeleben, I'm sure it must have been a real scary lookin' Queen's pawn ;)
Apr-09-11  Damonkeyboy: The greatest game of all time

tamar: Pillsbury was rumored to have said, "It will be Curt, and it will be short."
Apr-09-11  fab4: Von Bardelben.. was it the Steinitz defeat in the same tournamnent which led to this non appearance? A notorious drama queen that he was.. lol
Apr-09-11  fab4: Fischer for one would be highly uncomfortable with this game.

Richard Taylor: This has to be one of the greatest ever chess masterpieces. I have replayed it 2 exp 22 times in my "madness room" and I never tire of it. Wonderful!
Mar-14-13  RookFile: It would have funny if Pillsbury had played something like 1. Nh3, knowing that his opponent wasn't going to show up.
Mar-14-13  drnooo: people can say what they like, and apparently have here

but

this is one helluva ending

alekhine once said to beat me you have
do it in the opening, then the middlegame
and then the ending

with one mere move Pillsbury did
all three

what tremendous conceptualization

Mar-27-13  sydfhd: Deserves being game of the day.
