May-15-10  jerseybob: What a stark difference in these 2 players, with Boleslavsky totally outclassing Kholmov. White plays totally without plan, while every black move has a purpose. The move 7.h3 seems to be about presrving the bishop, yet there goes white just a few moves later swapping off the bishop. And what is 12.Qe3 all about? With 12..Qb6!, black practically forces the unfavorable Queen exchange, giving black an open a-file. Then with queens off, white launches an "attack" down the h-file. Better to just castle short and try to fight for equality.
Mar-02-18  Saniyat24: I don't have a problem with Kholmov's long castling, but 22.b4 was not a good move...Kholmov played a little too passively in this game...
Jul-06-24  Prabhat Mukherjea: Kholmov was just beginning serious chess at this time. He was a school drop-out and hooligan who learnt by playing. At this stage he had no experience of playing at this level, no opening knowledge and lack of confidence, so it's no surprise he's outclassed by players he would have destroyed later.
