 | | MissScarlett: The <Field> of July 6th 1872 claims this game was one of 12 boards played simultaneously blindfold in Berlin. The year is a bit fuzzy, but I think it reads 1869. This claim probably came from Zukertort himself, so it pays to be sceptical. Zukertort could give a 10-board blindfold exhibition when he first arrived in England in 1872, but what are his earliest records of such displays? |

 | | jnpope: Well, Zukertort gave an 11 board blindfold simul in Berlin on 1869.03.02, games against Zoltowski, Brass, Rahlson, and NN were published in <Neue Berliner Schachzeitung>, v6 n3, March 1869, pp78-82. The Zoltowski game is on CG (I was looking over the other three games yesterday and thinking I should upload them). This game is also given in the <Chess Journal> (aka. <Brownson's Chess Journal>/<Dubuque Chess Journal>, v2 n12, February 1871, p25, stating "One of twelve parties played blindfold simultaneously by J. H. Zukertort in Berlin, December, 1868", so given the date of the <Chess Journal> I'm willing to bet that this game can be found in an earlier German source. |
