Tabanus: Does anyone know the original source for this game, where it is published? I cannot find it in newspapers, and not in The Chess Player's Chronicle either.
Oct-24-13  Jakob52: I know it doesn't look good for white, but why not try 26. exf7?
Jul-25-15  mandy64: Because after 26. exf7 Qxe2 27. fxe8=Q Rxe8 black threatens with both a back rank mate and with Qb2 forking the rook and the knight. So, 28. Nc2 is the only option, but 28.. d3 wins at least a piece.

jnpope: <Tabanus>, I just came across it in Bell's Life in London, 1841.04.18, which states: <An interesting match by correspondence has just come off between Capt. -, a distinguished player in the Portsmouth Club, and E. W., Esq., one of the leaders of the Bristolian phalanx.>.

The second game is given in Bell's Life in London, 1841.06.20.
