  Sally Simpson: The latest CHESS August 2023 has a letter where a reader has noticed that in the final chapter of 'Technique in Chess' by Abrahams we read;

"Do you fully appreciate pins? A sad example I can give is of a misfortune that befell a player much esteemed by me. He had Rooks on a1 and b1, and a Queen on b7 attacked by the opponent's Queen but defended by the Rook on b1. What then upset White was Rc1+ by the opponent."

No diagram and no names are displayed, just the above text. We wonder who was the '...player much esteemed by me.' Abrahams had in mind. :)

Diagram from this game, Black to play their 25th move.
