plang: Two years earlier at Biel 2001 Pelletier had used this relatively quiet 7 Bg5 line to defeat Svidler. 15..fxe? had been played in Sadler-I.Gurevich Hastings 1992-3 and White had gone on to win; 15..g5 was clearly better. The stronger 16 Bg3 had been played in Furman-Savon USSR 1970 (game not included in this database) ; instead, after Pelletier's 16 axb? White quickly got into trouble. Perhaps 17 h3 would have been better but White was already worse. One winning line would be 27 Rdg1+..Kh8 28 Nxf3..Qxf3+ 29 Ke1..Qc3+ 30 Ke2..Nc4 31 Qd3..Qb2+ 32 Kd1..Qa1+ 33 Ke2..Qa2+ 34 Ke1..Qf2+ 35 Kd1..Nb2+.
