Phony Benoni: I think the comments so far well reflect the interest of this game. It's hard fought, and the final ending is interesting, but it's not one of the immortal classics. It might not even be a mortal classic.

At least the pun is worthy of the game.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Nice defense by Minguell. Chekhov tried everything, indeed his play is a good example of how to find resources even in seemingly dead level positions, but Minguell displayed both patience and unflagging attention to the concealed perils.
Aug-06-10  C4gambit: The only thing i liked about the game was how each had 7 pawns alive while all the powerhouses were gone save a knight a piece. Is there any game where two players are left with only 8 pawns and no pieces?

I think CG.com were more interested in the pun than the game. F X Minguell has three other games in the database, two of which are also draws.

His loss in F X Minguell vs Kupreichik, 1984 is intesting primarily because his Q is en prise for about a dozen consecutive moves. Unfortunately this is probably the result of scoresheet errors.

Aug-06-10  whiteshark: Special Foreign Exchange? Go figure! Hmmm...

Phony Benoni: <goodevans> With Kupreichik you're never sure. But that game does look like a scoresheet error was involved.
Aug-06-10  whiteshark: <goodevans/Phony Benoni> It has been fixed.
Aug-07-10  kevin86: White must abandon the pawn or allow black's to queen-therefore:draw
