Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-21-08  cade: Ouch. The White Bishop controls h7 and it's game over.
Jan-21-08  D.Observer: Black is hopless!
Jan-21-08  hahaha123: backwards d pawn is hopeless after move 21. black was asleep.
Jan-21-08  cyruslaihy: how bout 21...dxc5
doesn't that elimiate the backward pawn?
i don't see how white can cash in on the open d file
Jan-21-08  whiteshark: <32...Nxe4> was improper.
Jan-21-08  jovack: <whiteshark> I agree... Black thought he had a clever tactic knight takes knight, bishop takes bishop (dark square!!) and black is deep in white's camp... Or, perhaps he was thinking bishop takes bishop, rook takes bishop, knight takes knight, white bishop takes knight, and white is forced to make an isolated pawn. Black is down a light bishop, but maybe he thought his strong united pawn majority would be better in the end over white's (temporarily) weak bishop. All in all, the sacrifice wasn't necessary and Be1 was just fine. Perhaps black should have just pulled his horns down and retreated the knight... even though white would gain some attack with his dark bishop on the queenside since black's dark squares look pretty weak there.

Solid play by white, making the right exchanges to slowly improve his position into a solid endgame where all his pieces were in the right places, and all of black's pieces were uncoordinated.

This position is not so bad for black.

Jan-21-08  sandmanbrig: 32 ... Nxe4 was definitely ill-advised
Jan-21-08  DarthStapler: I don't understand the pun
Jan-21-08  MrMelad: <Darthstapler> look here Game Collection: GM RAM Game Selection
Jan-21-08  fourqueens: Black should never have let the Bishop come in on g7. I guess it was kind of forced though after Nxe4 by Black.

BTW, GM-Ram is a great book! I am using it as the major part of my study program.

Jan-22-08  kevin86: The joke fails for a simple reason:Ram is a Dodge product-not GM!

The ending will be slow but effective;white will win the bishop with his advanced pawn. Then,he will use the king to usher in his queen side pawns-which are untouchable by black's king. He can even force home the f-pawn after gobbling black's e-pawns while the b-pawn keeps black's king at bay.

Jul-03-12  sfm: I have forgotten these beginner rules-of-thumb. After 43.Bc2 - white has clear advantage, because many more of his pawns are on the same color of squares as his bishop, right?
Dec-27-15  Stabulous: Although it is near eight years too late and nobody will ever see this comment: "GM Rammed" is a reference to Ziyatdinov's book, "GM-RAM". Not cars.
