Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-25-04  acirce: Dreev missed mate in one in move 61 if this is the correct game
Jun-25-04  AdrianP: <acirce> Agreed - this was at blitz time controls? They may have been very short of time - it's a relatively easy mate to miss if you're playing on auto-pilot.
Jun-25-04  acirce: Yeah, it was the sudden death game so there was no increment either. From what I know they might just have had seconds left.
Jun-25-04  thorndeux: Sakaev on the other hand didn't take the hanging rook on move 63 and 64... ;)
Jun-25-04  notsodeepthought: Makes you wonder if SD is really the best way to go - you don't want to see blunders like these in the decisive game between two players close to 2700.
Jun-25-04  aboynamedgeorge: I'd guess they both had under 20 seconds when those moves where played. I'm pretty sure Sakeav lost on time, so that gives you an indication...

I remember a game Anand lost on time because he was queening a pawn and had to reach all the way across the board for the queen, but if he had just grabbed the rook beside his queening pawn he would have made it, and still won!

Jun-26-04  mathguru: How does Dreev respond to 63 KxR ???
Jun-27-04  iron maiden: <aboynamedgeorge> Can you post a link to that game?
Jun-27-04  PinkPanther: <mathguru>
He doesn't "respond" to it, it was a time induced blunder.
