Dec-06-08  WhiteRook48: What was Short thinking?
Dec-21-08  WhiteRook48: 121. Re6??? This could be a biggest blunder ever.
Dec-22-08  WhiteRook48: I bet this should be #1 in the "Short loses" collection of games
Dec-24-08  WhiteRook48: such a blunder!!!!! How did that happen???
World Class Blunders:
1. 121. Re6??? as above.
Anyone got others?
Jan-10-09  WhiteRook48: Hmm. It'll be weird to watch all the kibitzes on the 121. Re6?? blunder.
Jan-11-09  WhiteRook48: this explorer's sacrifices are weird. 25...Qxa3 is not a SACRIFICE. It is merely a trade of queen for rook and black would not have won if white had not blundered the rook.
Jan-20-09  WhiteRook48: or maybe 121. Re6 was actually a brilliant sacrifice but Short forgot the follow-up.
Jan-21-09  WhiteRook48: Poor Short. He must have lost over 100 rating points. :P
Jan-31-09  WhiteRook48: terrible game anyway
Feb-22-09  WhiteRook48: 25...Qxa3 was winning?? Well, there is compensation for the queen BUT...
Jun-18-09  Kinghunt: To me the real question is why they played this out to move 121 anyway. Why not just call it a draw 40 or 50 moves earlier?
Nov-29-09  notyetagm: Wow, every time I see this blunder I am shocked and amazed.

121 ♖c6-e6???????

Dec-06-09  dumbgai: Ah, the best of Nigel.
Sep-20-10  eightbyeight: AH HA HA HA HA HA! HA HA HA! WHA HA HA HA HA HA! Huh, huh, - WHA HA HA HA HA HA!
Oct-23-10  Tigranny: What was the real plan with Re6?
Oct-24-10  eightbyeight: Probably to weave a mating net with Re7+. It was just the perfect square for the rook, except that it wasn't.
Apr-11-11  Tigranny: Thanks eightbyeight.
Aug-02-11  Tigranny: I think 121.Re6?? should be the blunder of the century because it was a long, hard fought battle unlike the game with the real Blunder Of The Century - Deep Fritz vs Kramnik, 2006.
Dec-05-11  notyetagm: <charms: I think White's 121. move is a mistake.>

No, Short actually hung his rook.

FSR: Another famous brain fart by Short: Short vs Beliavsky, 1992.
Dec-11-12  mjkE4: One of the worst blunders I have seen, made me think I was looking at one of my own games.
Mar-05-13  Garech: <Sneaky>

<The only thing that matters is the final result of the game, and so 25...Qxa3!! Brilliant! It traps a rook 100 moves later!>

LOL!

:D

Check It Out: It's a blunder like this, 121 moves in to the game, that highlights how taxing chess is on the mind-body.
Mar-27-13  Paint My Dragon: Indeed. Nigel explained this one today on the live Candidates broadcast. He needed the bathroom urgently. The nearest inexplicably involved walking the length of a gigantic tournament hall and along numerous corridors of a large hotel. He was in some time trouble and every time he moved, Krasenkow seemed to sense his plight and responded immediately each time Nigel stood up. The blunder occurred when he could no longer concentrate.
Mar-28-13  paavoh: So it was Short's bladder, not blunder. Could he have used an empty bottle instead?
