Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-11-06  Rama: This is a very unusual opening. It results in a semi-closed middle game with assymetries. Black's advanced center pawns restrict white's mobility but this only becomes serious after 30. ... Nxe4+!, removes white's best piece and relieves the pressure on black's white-colored squares.

With 31. ... Bxc4, black executes a pseudo-sacrifice: with 32. dxc4 Rxc4, black will pick up his sacked piece on the c-file. Since 33. Ne1 ..., doesn't help, white counter-sacks with Nxd4 in the hope of gaining some mobility.

This turns out to be mistaken and after 35. ... Rxc1, white could resign. He plays on to move 42, perhaps with an eye on the clock.

This game deserves further study, by someone with acces to Fritz who can maybe help evaluate the opening. Ahues' technique evidently did not suffer from disuse during the war.
