Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-16-03  bishop: Black thougth that he could gain with 20...Bc6 as 21.Re3 and 21.Rf4 both lose the exchange, but White netted a Pawn with the surprising 21.Rxe6!, a startling combination featuring a Queen sacrifice and a Pawn promotion. If Black had continued with 21...Rxe6 then 22.Qxe6+ Qxe6 23.Rxe6 Bxf3 24.Bxf3 Rxf3 25.Re8+ Kh7(...Rf8? h7+!) 26.hxg7 Kxg7 27.Rxd8 wins.
Mar-03-05  Whitehat1963: Very entertaining game from the player of the day that features an excellent and surprising combination! Definitely worth your time!
May-19-11  Calar: This combination (starting from move 21) needs to get more recognition. Quite unexpected.
May-19-11  Catfriend: <Calar> By that stage, the game's pretty much over. In fact, 23..Qb1+ 24. Re1 Qxe1+ 25. Bxe1 Rxf3 26. Bxf3 would prolong the game, so the combination isn't objectively correct.

What I find intriguing about the game is the gradual way small (yet surprising...) indiscretions pave the road to perdition.

The over-aggressive 7..a5 (maybe fine by itself but not in accord with later play, like omitting a4) and 10..Qh5, 12..Na6, the knight that will stay in that area for a long time, and maybe worst of all - 19..Bd8 without exchanging first. The source of all evil!
