Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-23-05  midknightblue: World championship match and they played a gambit. This deserves some kibitzing!
Sep-23-05  ughaibu: A tournament rather than a match.
Sep-23-05  midknightblue: technically, but this round was the finals, so they were indeed matched against each other.
Sep-23-05  ughaibu: Yet neither of them won the championship.
Sep-23-05  midknightblue: oh, ok. thx. excellent point. I guess "finals" meant final tournament (what was it, 8 players?). I assumed it was winner gets championship, but of course that would mean that the winner would have earned the title of world champ, which of course neither did. Anyway, I found this game when i was looking for some good games with the milner barry. Especially of interest to me is the line 10...Qxe5 11. Re1 Qb8 12. Qf3 (instead of Nxd5) with delay of the eventual capture at d5. There is only one example of this line in the database. Black can respond 12. Nf6, 12. Bd6. Also have seen 12 Be7 before, but I dont think that one is particularly strong. Hoping to find some games with this line, but maybe the MB gambit is shunned at master level, because black can maintain an advantage (particularly with 10...a6). If anyone knows where i can find some games with the 12. Qf3 level please let me know.
Sep-23-05  ughaibu: 17 player all-play-all.

profK: This game actually inspired me to play the Advance against the French...I had a lot of luck over 30 years with it.
