Chessical: An ascendant and combatative Spassky tries to overwhelm his lesser known opponent using a sharp gambit as black, and comes off worse.

Novotelnov could also have won with the attractive: <22.Qc2+!> Kb8 23.Qc7+ Ka8 24.Be4 (24.Kxh2? g3+ 25.Kg1 Qh4 is a bad mistake) 24...Nc6 25.Nxc6 Qxe4 26.Qa5 a6 27.Qb6 axb5 28.Qa7

The White knights penetrate the Black king's defences in an extraordinary way.

Apr-14-05  allanon880: So few comments on an impressive game.
Apr-14-05  Shams: chessical, that is an impressive line! is that yours? I like the sideline queen sac 25...Bxc7? 26.Nxc7 mate.

what is your rating, if you don't mind my asking?

Honza Cervenka: This is the only game of Spassky (at least in the database), where he tried to play Schara Gambit. He could get quite decent game, if he would have played 14...Kb8 instead of at the moment not very useful 14...g4. In some lines g4 can be better used by Knight.

  Honza Cervenka: For example, 14...Kb8 15.b4 Bd6 16.Ncb5?! Nxd4 17.Nxd4 Ng4! 18.g3 Nxh2! 19. Kxh2 h4 with decisive attack.
