plang: In Van der Weil-Zapata Amsterdam 1987 White had played 10 Ne2 and had gone on to win; 10 0-0-0 was new. 10..Ne7?! was an awkward development that caused some problems for Black. Grischuk was critical of 18..Bc5?! recommending instead 18..Kf7 19 b3..Be7 20 f4..Nc6 21 Bb2 with advantage to White. 20 Qe3? was a blunder; 20 Bxc5..Qxc5 21 Nh5..Nxf3 22 gxf..Qxh5 23 Qg3..d5 24 Qg1 would have left White in control. After 27 g5? White was lost; better would have been 27 h5..e5 28 g5..fxg 29 fxg..Nd4 30 Rg1 when White has compensation for the piece. 40..Qf4 would have been an easier way to win. 43 Kxc3..Ne7! would also have been winning for Black. White resigned due to 48 Rf7+..Kb6 49 Rf6..e4 followed by ..Kc5 and..Nd4.

  perfidious: <master8ch: Doesn't 43.Kxc3 win for White?>

Before reviewing others' comments, I noticed that the only hope after 43.Kxc3 would have been 43....Ne7 (44.Rxf3 Nd5+ or 44.Qc5+ Qc6), as pointed out by <plang>.
