Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-30-03  Lawrence: One of those hairy opening traps that you've always got to look out for. Black virtually committed hari-kari.
Jul-25-05  DanRoss53: 8... Nxe5? looks rather blind, but all other moves fail as well. 8... Ke6!? looks best, and 8... Ke8?? leads to Mate. Here's my wag at all variations:

8... Ke6 9. Ng6 Rh7 10. e5 Ngf6 11. exf6 Qxf6 12. Nxf8+ Nxf8

8... Kf6 9. Qd4 Ke6 10. Ng6 Rh7 11. e5 Ne7 12. Qc4+ Nd5 13. Qg4+ Kf7 14. e6+ Ke8 15. exd7+ Qxd7 16. Re1+ Be7 17. Qxd7+ Kxd7

8... Ke7 9. Ng6+ Ke8 10. Nxh8 Ngf6 11. Be3 Be7 12. Nc3 Ne5 13. Qe2 Qc7 14. Rfd1

8...Nxe5 9. Qxd8 Be7 10. Qc7 Ng6 11. Nc3 Nf6 12. Be3 Rd8 13. Rad1 Ne8 14. Qg3 Be6

8... Ke8 9. Qh5+ g6 10. Qxg6+ Ke7 11. Qf7+ Kd6 12. Nc4+ Kc5 13. Nc3 Qg5 14. b4+ Kxb4 15. Ba3+ Kxc3 16. Qf3+ Qe3 17. Qxe3+ Kxc4 18. Qd3#

Jul-25-05  sitzkrieg: Never ever play philidor if u don't know it very well! This is the (mutilated)Philidor isnt it?:S

Crafty End Game Trainer defends 7. Bxf7+ with 7...Kxf7 8. Nxe5+ Kf6 9. Qd4 Ke6 10. Ng6 Rh7 11. e5! (White needs to recover his piece) and now the EGT plays 11...Kf7 instead of 11...Ne7. The best I can find (human analysis without engine assistance) is 12.e6+ Ke8 13.exd7+ Qxd7 14.Re1+ Ne7 15.Qe4 Qf5 to reach

and White is a Pawn up but will have work to do to win the ending. Craft EGT link: http://www.chessvideos.tv/endgame-t...

Jul-19-15  rodantero: In David's line white can play (much better) 11.Qc4+! Kf6 12.Nf4! when both checkmate and knight on g8 are threaten and the blacks position is desperate.
Jul-19-15  rodantero: This trap appears at a higher level also X Peng vs Du Shan, 2005

perfidious: This line can be Haerri for Black.

FSR: Black's position is dubious to say the least, but most people would have preferred a king move to 8...Nxe5 followed by resignation.
