Feb-04-03  AgentRgent: I wonder how many people would promote to Queen without even giving it a moments thought?
Jan-02-04  PinkPanther: Absolutely classic! I don't think I've ever seen such a comical ending to a game of chess.
Mar-14-04  iron maiden: This game is almost completely identical to NN-Goetz Alphonse, 1880, although that game was over in seven moves.
May-06-04  ruylopez900: Poor Lange, he probably meant well =D
Jan-11-05  rleder: 2...f5 looks spectacularly bad to me. Could anything good possibly come out of that move for black? 4...Ke7 could have averted immediate catastrophe, but losing the ability to castle and having your kingside ripped open is still a pretty miserable opening.
Nov-26-05  Chopin: All I can say is OUCH!
Jan-03-06  DeepBlade: Never decline The King's Gambit!
Jan-03-06  hintza: 2...Bc5 is fine, not to mention the Falkbeer. But never decline it like in this game!
Jan-04-06  DeepBlade: hahaha, yes thats what I was trying to say :P

The underpromotion is very elegant an is simultaneusly Black's downfall. I recall Morphy had an game like this.

Mar-17-06  DeepBlade: Material Makes Blind
Apr-30-06  soberknight: Hey, <kevin86>: Black was not Max Lange, but some other guy named Lange.
May-01-06  McCool: The e pawn travelled all the way to the h file!
Aug-04-06  jackmandoo: I was laughing out loud when I saw that mate. It looks so queer!
Aug-04-06  jackmandoo: <jackmandoo> I think you might offend some people on this site by using that word.
Aug-04-06  jackmandoo: I'm using the word "queer" like they did during the olden days, before homosexuals were invented. (basiclly pre-1920's)
Aug-04-06  technical draw: You must be a gay fellow. Of course I'm using gay like in the olden days.
Aug-04-06  jackmandoo: I dont have anything against homosexuals; I have sympathy for them however although it might not be what you think. I feel bad because there aren't any homosexual love songs for those people to listen to. That must suck for them. Constantly having to replace he with she and vise versa while listening to a song. That must be a bummer.
Aug-04-06  technical draw: Hi, Jack. Glad to see you're a marine. I'm army. I served in Vietnam. Right now all I remember is when we saved the marines at Khe Sanh! (just a little intra-service elbowing!)...
Aug-04-06  jackmandoo: <technical draw> If you would like some sort of Marine vs. Army thing to start between us that's fine, I accept your challenge. Just remember one thing: I am a Marine, and you are in the Army.
Aug-04-06  technical draw: <jackmandoo> Ouch! Well maybe you're right. I fired my whole arsenal with Khe Sanh, but give me a while and I might remember something.

Jan-24-09  WhiteRook48: what a great underpromotion!
Jan-31-09  WhiteRook48: never mind that bad Dec-24- post. To see 3 white knights on the board in the opening is just funny
Mar-24-12  hotwax: <rleder>: Could anything good possibly come out of that move for black? 4...Ke7 ... is still a pretty miserable opening.

Indeed, yet I found a win for black, C Kennaugh vs K Shirazi, 2003

The opening might even make white take unnecessary risks, thinking black is a patzer for playing this "Panteldakis Countergambit"... Kind of reminds me of this game by Fischer in a simul where his opponent plays damiano's defence just to throw Fischer off and manage a draw: Fischer vs R F Mcgregor, 1964

May-13-16  whiteshark: underpromotion w/ # miniature
