Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-05-02  bishop: Karjakin sacrifices a Pawn for the sake of a blockade. This game could have been played by Nimzovitch.

Sneaky: I have lukewarm feelings about many of the new generation of chess prodigies. Karjakin, however, seems to me to be something special. Could he be the next Fischer or Capablanca? You never know...
Dec-06-02  RicardoLamacchia: Sneaky, Karjakin will never be like Fischer, or Capablanca, i understand he is a prodigy , but never , like James Fischer
Dec-06-02  refutor: how do you know? there's always a "next one"
Jun-20-03  ongyj: Sorry but can anyone tell me what is the exact puropse of 19...Bf6 ? I thought 19...a5 was better. Alternatively, if he wanted to rid off the d6 bishop blockade why not 20...Be7 ?
Jun-21-03  bishop: On c3 the Bishop is somewhat loose, it could be attacked with Rb3 plus there might be a combo with Bxh7+ and Qd3+ later. So ...Bf6 is just a consolidating move. As to 20...Be7 I would guess that Karjakin intended 21.Qe5 keeping the blockade.

wwall: If 20...Be7, instead of 21.Qe5, stronger seems 21.Bxe7 Rxe7 22.Rb4, threatening 23.Rh4 and trapping the queen. If 23...g5, now White can play 24.Qe5 (threatening 25.Qxg5+) 24...h6 25.Reb1, threatening 26.Rb8.
