Jan-30-05  PinkPanther: Was this a blitz/rapid game, or was it one of the ones played at normal time controls?

It was classical time control.

Game 1 of their fourth round match in the World Championship tournament; Morozovich won game 2 but Ponomariov then won the quick-play tiebreak and then went on to defeat Bareev, Svidler and Ivanchuk to win the championship. 6..gxf and 7..a6 is a pet line of Morozovich. 11 c3 was a new move; 11 Nc3 had been played previously. Not easy to see where Black went wrong in this sharp, unbalanced position though after 17 d5! White seemed to have favorable chances.
