plang: 9 Qb3 is a rarely played but reasonable alternative to the main lines 9 Qe2 and 9 Nh4. 13 Nf3 was new and has not been repeated; 13 Bxd5 had been played previously. 21..Rae8?! proved to be a waste of time; perhaps 21..g6 should have been considered. 35 Bg4 would have been objectively stronger leaving White with a small edge but White, knowing that Black was short of time, played for complications. Black was lost after 35..gxf?; better was 35..Re5 36 Be4..Kg7! 37 Rc8..Ne6 38 Qh8+..Kh6 39 Rc4!..Qxc4 40 Qxe5..Ndf4 with equality. 37..Qg7 38 Nxf5..Qe5+ 39 g3 would not have helped Black.
