Nov-05-11  notyetagm: Exercise 1. How would you continue as Black?
It's clear that White has the d-file as his main
asset. Black, on the other hand, has a superior
pawn structure and would love to see a ¤
vs ¥ ending, since the position is closed and
the ¥ is obstructed by its own pawns. Black
continued with
29...¦gf8
after which White kept a slight edge. Black did,
however, miss a very elegant opportunity to
achieve his goal with 29...£xd8! 30.£xd8 ¤d6
The £ is trapped and the material balance will
soon be restored. With only one ¦ and the ¤ vs
the ¥ left, Black has excellent chances.
