I'm not seeing why white failed to take on c6. Maybe there's some tactic I don't see that looks scary. At a depth of 30 sf says that the position is equal after 10...Bg4 11.f3 Rc8 12.Bb7 Rb8 13.fxg4 Rxb7 14.0-0 Ne4 15.g3 and white's better off than the game line, e.g. ...Re8 16.Nc3 Ng5 17.d4 to take some of the center or Na4 to activate the bishop. White at least has the g file and a little pressure on d5. |

So mate will follow soon in this line. The only plausible alternative Black has is 18 fxg4 - grab some material while you can. Now White has two choices - Rxe3 or Bxg3. Both seem strong, Rxe3 more so due to the threat of double Rooks on the second rank. And 18... Kxh2 is still unavailable. White can try to wiggle around a bit more but one can't imagine surviving this attack with all major Black pieces pointed at its King. |
