Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-23-14  Resignation Trap: Black lost on time after 36. Ne6+.
If 36...Qxe6 37. Qe3! Qa6 38. Rc7+ Kg8 39. Qe4 f5 40. Qh4 wins.
Feb-27-18  zydeco: Fairly straightforward positional game by Stein to start his winning after opening the tournament with eight straight draws!

Novopashin declined a couple of pawn sacrifices where accepting might have given him more counterplay. On move 14, he actually can take on d4: if 15.Nxd4 Nxd4 16.Re1+ Ne6. Maybe he didn't like 15.Nxd4 Nxd4 16.Bh6!? although 16...Ne6 or 16....Bxh6 17.Qxd4 0-0 both certainly look playable.

I'm assuming that he passed on 24....Bxc5 25.bxc5 Qxc5 because of 26.g4 followed by capturing on f6, but there may be some defensive resources there as well.
