Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-15-10  King.Arthur.Brazil: Until 22...Ncd7 seems black is OK with his defeatt, so after Qxa3 he has 2 passed jointed P to win on Qside. But white attack seems to bore him. So he changed to Kside plan but 35...g6 (to avoid Nf5 makes him lose quality after 37.Nxe7 K...38.Qxg7+ Kxg7, 39.Nf5+. So he sacrificed directly witn Rxe7. from there on he play to K attack: sacrificed his a7 P to plant Qh4 and Nf4 with big force, byu which he win the white Q. So casme amazzing end-game with 2P Q x 2R. A finest chess end-game technique.
Feb-15-10  King.Arthur.Brazil: Explaining the end; after 81.R1b1 forced, h2+ 82.Rxh2 (forced) Qe3+ (Rf2 Qxf2+...) Kh1 (forced) Qxe4+ and Qxc1 win. White must play 55. Rb1 (not Rd1) followed by Rb2 amd R1b1 to capture the P as soon as possible in b3, not permitting the h P to approach, leaving the checks for Black.
Sep-28-13  Karpova: Another charming detail regarding the endgame: Black's goal is to move his King to g3, which he achieves at move 76. But he had the chance before, after 72.Re2 [diagram] - why didn't he reply 72...Kg3 but 72...Qc1+ instead?

The reason is, that 72.Re2 was a clever trap as 72...Kg3? 73.Rxb3! Qxb3 74.Re3+! Qxe3 and it's stalemate [diagram]

Sep-28-13  Everett: <Karpova> what do you think of that book, and how it compares to the similar title on Karpov?
Sep-28-13  Karpova: <Everett>

The annotations are good, although sometimes a bit more elaboration would have done no harm. The printing quality is surprisingly low, yet the diagrams can deciphered. But the endgames (there are also some complete games at the end) are great, no doubt. So I didn't regret buying it.

Sep-28-13  Everett: Thanks <Karpova>

perfidious: <karpova>: Clever trap, that, and well worth remembering.
Jan-27-14  Captain Hindsight: Better would have been <47.Rdd2> and White is still in the game <47...Qxf3 48.Kh1 Qf1+ 49.Qg1>
