Nov-22-10 | | sevenseaman: Mass exchanges on e8 opened up the game for White and he was duly in charge of the proceedings thereafter. The tactical stroke at the end is a kinda coup d'etat of sublime finesse and charm. These are premium feats on the board that make the game so irresistible. |

Mar-14-11 | | TheRavenPK: Imagine Schlechter's face before 31.g4+ which forces this fantastic conclusion.. I think that is the feeling we all want to achieve sometimes, that's why are we all playing this beautiful game.. |
|
Jul-25-11 | | sevenseaman: This Monday puzzle quirk has brought this game again into my view. What can I say; it continues to dazzle. This time around I tried devising ways if White could win without the extravagant Q sac. Rather quickly I came around to the conclusion it was indecent to try fiddling with an everlasting thing of beauty. |

 | | scormus: Lovely elegant game. I agree, best to enjoy just as it is. |
|
Jul-25-11 | | Gilmoy: <sleepyirv: It's a very striking mate- I don't think I've seen a King stuck quite like that.>
Sure you have. It's the same as Topalov's K vs. Kasparov, except on the K-side. Kasparov never had a tempo OTB for Kb2, but the threat of it handcuffed Topalov's Q to b3, forcing him to return two pieces (Bb7 and Nf6). |

Jul-25-11 | | abuzic: Couldn't black play 30...f4 or 30...Qe1+ instead of the purposeless 30...Qe6? after which white executed a very elegant mating attack. |

Fabelhaften Ende |

|
Jul-25-11 | | TheTamale: This ending position is hilarious! It seems incredible that with everything on the board, Black can do nothing to block a simple bishop check. Fabelhaften Ende indeed! |

Jul-25-11 | | abuzic: <scormus:.... .... and spoil the happy ending? Then we wouldnt have got this GOTD>
yes you're right. If I were watching live (after reading this post of course), I would like black to blunder 30...Qe6? and enjoy a lovely ending! After 30...Qe6 31.g4+ it is forced mate whatever black plays. |

Jul-25-11 | | The HeavenSmile: Absolutely clinical finish! Completely pefect |
|
Jul-25-11 | | weisyschwarz: Clever positional play! |
|
Jul-25-11 | | kevin86: The king's fate is sealed;only a kamikazi move can delay the mate one move-otherwise,white goes directly to f2 with the clergyman,and it's history... |

Jul-25-11 | | Sem: There is a game Donner vs. Spanjaard from the 1960s (not in Chessgames' database), in which Donner gets mated in a similar, beautiful way. Like a study by Reti. |

 | | Domdaniel: < I run this game through fritz and crafty they both gone nuts from move number 9> The position at move 14 is well known theoretically and has been reached dozens of times. The Fritz database has 16 examples from the century 1904 to 2004. 30...Qe6 is a terrible blunder. Once the Black King has been driven to a square like h5, mate is in the air, and the queen sac is not hard to see. It was vital to play 30...f4, when white has no mate and black has winning chances. |
