Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-18-06  Chess Classics: 33...Rac8? seems to be the decisive mistake. After that it's mop-up for Valery.

A mistake here would be 56 Re4? eg 56..Rg8 57 g4 Kd5 or 57 Kf4 Rf8+ 58 Ke5 Re8+ =

56 Kf4 is possible but after 56..Kd5 White must play 57 Rg6. Salov played 57 Rg6 immediately and it is the best move.

Here the tempting 58 Kg5? allows an attack from the rear: 58..Ke4! 59 g4 Kf3 = Salov of course played 58 Kg4! since now 58..Ke4 could be met by 59 Re6+ Kd5 60 Rh6! Ke4 61 Kh5

The conclusion of this game is well worth studying.
