Apr-15-24  VictorVonDoom: This is actually Trifunovic's best performance as he won a game against Najdorf who was among the world's elite at the time. Najdorf was, at the time, a 6 time Mar Del Plata tournament winner, winning it 6 times in a row from 1942. Najdorf also defeated Botvinnik, drew against Capablanca and defeated other top players like Keres, Kashdan and Flohr.

Therefore, it wasn't an ordinary player Trifunovic was playing against.

In this game, Trifunovic played very accurately, making only 2 mistakes-exd5 (allowing Bf5 trapping the rook) and f5 (isolating a pawn when Najdorf had 2 very powerful rooks).

But finally Trifunovic won by taking advantage of Najdorf's blunder Rd6 (as <Chessical> has pointed out). After 36. Rxc4, the 2 pawns become hard to stop, with Najdorf stopping them only at the cost of a rook.

Since Trifunovic had an extra bishop, it was unlikely that Najdorf could win and therefore, he resigned on move 42.

But a great game by Trifunovic, defeating one of the world elite.
