Phony Benoni: Nice little king hunt by Lombardy, who was not satisfied to be up the exchange.
Jun-26-06  MichaelJHuman: After 13. Ba3, why can't black save the rook?
Jun-26-06  weisyschwarz: <MichaelJHuman> I dunno why he doesn't. ...Be7 looks like a worthy move, maybe ...c5, too? Or just move the rook (...Re8). Being a lowly player, I cannot comprehend higher thinking.

Phony Benoni: I can't be sure, but it looks to me as though Mestel thought he was getting good play for the exchange. Look at the postion after 16...g5: white's pieces look boxed in, his king seems to be exposed, and Black has threats on f4/e3. Four moves later, it's the Black king who is fatally exposed.
Jun-27-06  RookFile: I wonder why he allowed his king to be driven to h3, rather than resigning..... it's pretty humiliating.

When practically your whole army is on the other side of the board, and your king is being driven like that.... nothing good is going to happen.

Jul-01-06  MichaelJHuman: Isn't the d5 pawn blacks achillas heel? After 8. dxe5, black's king is rather exposed.
