Feb-27-21  Dream Warrior: Nice game by Ljubomir Ljubojevic! Bravo.
Feb-29-24  TheaN: Not a super difficult Thursday honestly, because there isn't much to consider: White's down a piece, so it's either Qxb2 or Qxc7. Of course 34.Qxb2? Qd1+ 35.Kh2 Qd6+, so that leaves <34.Qxc7>.

White threatens Rxg7+ with a QR mating pattern to follow. I missed the text defense, but there must be more ways to win after Qf5 considering it allows Rxg7+ (text works fine though), and the alternative is <34....Qg5> preventing Rxg7+, yet <35.b6 +-> and the pawn's free as a bird.

Feb-29-24  Mayankk: My idea was 34 Qxc7 (ignoring 34 Qxb2 which will restore material parity), 34 ... Qg5 (to prevent against 35 Rxg7+) 35 b6.

White was threatening 36 b7 and 37 b8=Q+ and it was difficult to see how Black can stop this threat as well as Rxg7+.

But it all seemed too easy and indeed it was. 34 ... Qf5, allowing 35 Rxg7+ Kh8, but protecting against 36 Rh7+ was a far more stubborn defense.

Feb-29-24  TheaN: Quickly checked but 34....Qf5 is a desperate attempt to create some counterplay. After 35.Rxg7+ Kh8, 36.Rg3/Rg4, b6 and Qf7 all evaluate above +6.
Feb-29-24  mel gibson: I saw the first ply - it was quite easy.

Stockfish 16 has a different reply for Black and says:

34. Qxc7

(34. Qxc7 (1.Qxc7 Qg5 2.b6 Rf8 3.b7 Kh7 4.b8R Rxb8 5.Qxb8 Nc4 6.Qc7 Nd2 7.Qg3 Nc4 8.Rb7 Qxg3 9.fxg3 Kg8 10.Rb5 Kf7 11.Rc5 Nd6 12.Rxa5 Ke6 13.Kh2 Ne8 14.Ra8 Nd6 15.a5 Kf7 16.a6 Nc4 17.Rb8 Kg6 18.g4 Na5 19.Rb5 Nc4 20.Kg1 Nd6 21.Rb4 Kh7 22.Kh2 Nc8 23.Rb8) +6.56/49 560)

score for White +6.56 depth 49.

if I force SF to have Black's reply:

34. .. Qf5
35. Rxg7+

(35. Rxg7+ (1.Rxg7+ Kh8 2.b6 Rc8 3.Rh7+ Qxh7 4.Qxc8+ Kg7 5.b7 Qb1+ 6.Kh2 Nxa4 7.b8Q Qxb8+ 8.Qxb8 h5 9.Qa7+ Kg6 10.Qxa5 Nb2 11.Qb5 Kf7 12.Qxb2 Ke6 13.Qd4 h4 14.g3 Ke7 15.gxh4 Ke6 16.h5 Ke7 17.h6 Kf7 18.Qd7+ Kg6 19.h7 Kh6 20.h8Q+ Kg6 21.Qhh7+ Kg5 22.Qdf5+) +M22/75 933)

White wins_ mate in 22.

Feb-29-24  sfm: <TheaN: ... there isn't much to consider... 34.Qxb2? Qd1+ 35.Kh2 Qd6+> Right! And it would have been "32.Ne7+??"

We know Ljubo had seen it all, so he well knew that it was 32.Ne7+!!, ending the game.

Feb-29-24  jffun1958: 39. Qd2
The bQ cannot protect h6 and Nb2. White will win.
