Nov-16-03  ughaibu: Because(?) Tal played against the pieces rather than against the pawns it's often difficult to figure out what he's up to. This game has wide ranging manouvres and two exchange sacrifices.

Eggman: I think this game is probably from the Montreal World Cup, in which Tal tied for first with Karpov. 1979 was an excellent year for Tal: by the January 1980 list, Tal had pushed his rating up over 2700, and was ranked second in the world.
Nov-16-03  Spitecheck: Even more amazing given Tal's constant fight not just on the 64 squares but with his own health.

Jun-12-08  dTal: indeed, I believe that if not for his ill health he would now be regarded as the greatest in history..

Plaskett: "The plain truth is Tal likes vodka too much for a man with one kidney".

Leonard Barden

Tal also drunk the hotel dry of brandy when winning a tournament in Hastings in the 1970s.

perfidious: The morning we sat opposite each other for a series of blitz games at 5-2, Tal had a partial bottle of vodka before him.
Feb-18-23  ChessIsLife159753: What a wonderful game. 14.a3!! uses a less typical plan in the benoni, namely going for b2-b4 and press on the queenside.

Also his 2 Petrosian-like exchange sacrifices (34.Rxc4! and 44.Rxd6!!) were just beyond belief.
