Mar-12-05  vonKrolock: Quite impressive; Khalifman was never easy to beat...

<11...f5> An alternative to 11...Qe7, as played in Lombardy vs Keene, 1975

Jul-01-05  Pretzel Logic: Nice, after Black jams the center with pieces and pawns, attack it at the base....
Jul-11-05  molinov: 22... b5 is a terrible blunder.

Retireborn: Khalifman had probably forgotten that Rf7 is pinned when he blundered, but his position was bad anyway.

12.Ne5! is a typical way for White to gain an advantage in this opening; Black, unable to tolerate the knight, is lured into a premature exchange.

This tournament was a Scheveningen and featured the Polgars playing as team. It would be interesting to know how the opponents were selected; IMs Arlandi and Grosar were surely a class below the Polgars, whereas Khalifman (rated over 2600) should have been a class above them, but he could only score 50% from the six games.

perfidious: Polgar would only manage =2 -2 in their four meetings to come, this being from the first cycle of the match.
