Jan-26-06  jackmandoo: Seems like Garry had some trouble with his calculations in this game. His first mistake was choosing the Sicilian Defense which has been proven to be inferior.
Jan-26-06  cade: I hope you are being sarcastic
Jan-26-06  jackmandoo: "I don't believe in sarcasm, I believe in good moves." Fischer
Jan-27-06  THE pawn: Then if the sicilian defense ( In my opinion, Garry's best weapon) is inferior, why is it played again and again at elite levels?
Jan-27-06  jackmandoo: Well I suppose it all depends on what you would consider "elite". It's your own personal opinion isn't it? If you break the Sicilian down it is very simple and easy for white to keep the initaive. All you have to do with any opening or ANYTHING for that matter is just "break it down". You could even find the answer to life using this method. I could explain the mysteries of the existance of Mankind if I wanted to! To understand Mankind first you have to look at the word. It's made up of two words, Mank and Ind, figure those out and you have your answer.
Jan-27-06  EricCartman: <jackmandoo> Offcourse, the Sicilian is the worst opening in the whole chess game. I mean 1...c5? It makes no sense. Just pawnstorm ==> dead king
Jan-27-06  EmperorAtahualpa: I'm sure uncle Omar approves of this game.
Mar-09-08  positionalgenius: < his first mistake was choosing the sicilian defense...> Cade: " I hope you are being sarcastic"
<<<<Ericcartman> Of course... 1...c5? pawnstorm= dead king>>>>> Hilarious discussion

Jonathan Sarfati: Kasparov's only loss in a simul against some leading French representatives. http://www.365chess.com/tournaments...
Dec-20-12  Shams: <Jonathan Sarfati> Was this game a simul game too? Kasparov vs M Sharif, 1989

Somebody should issue a correction. Not sure if a 365 web page is sufficient proof.

Jul-22-14  Thumbtack2007: According to the heading today, it was a simultaneous exhibition. Still, beating K in a simul definitely deserves a gold star.

al wazir: If Sharif's rating was 2400+ when he played this game, as it is now, he was too strong to be playing in a simul.
Jul-22-14  Caissanist: Of all the thousands of inactive Chessgames members, I think I miss <jackmandoo> the most.
Jul-22-14  smitten: Can you play White against the GM who is giving a simul?

Very definitely--that's why the fish won game after game with the opening.

Honza Cervenka: It was probably a clock simul of Gazza against a team.

perfidious: No chance Kasparov plays a mere IM in anything but a display of some sort by 1988, except possibly in an Olympiad, which this clearly was not.

  ketchuplover: What about 31.cxb3?
Jul-22-14  Eusebius: 1...c5? Hahaha...awesome. This made my day.

Jul-22-14  Landman: Kasparov plays like this in Evry simul.

  Honza Cervenka: From Gazza's bio:

<In 1988 he played a simul against the French team in Evry (Game Collection: Kasparov vs French Team Simul), winning 4, drawing one and losing one.>

"Evry" can be this place: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89...

Honza Cervenka: <ketchuplover: What about 31.cxb3?>

I guess that 31...cxb3 32.cxb3 is just fine for white. There is no back rank mate as white Rf6 and Ba6 cover f1 and white is a piece and Pawn up. Time to give up for black I would say, and Gazza agreed.
