Aug-02-05  JohnBoy: It looks like 30.Qe3 is to switch order of Q and R on the d file, with Rd3 and Qd2. In any case, with the rook on d3, white will free the queen up a bit. Black's 30...d5 is a blunder which quickly costs him the game.
Aug-02-05  fgh: 34. ... Ke7 35. Qd8#. Nice game.
Dec-26-05  MrSpock: 33. .. Tc6 and the game ist still open!
Mar-26-07  rotgut: <MrSpock> 33. .. Tc6 and the game is still open!

If by "Tc6" you mean 33. .. ♗c6, that leads to mate in two with ♖d8+ etc.

If it means ♖c6 then ♕xd5 wins.

Mar-26-07  Kangaroo: <rotgut: <<MrSpock> 33. .. Tc6 and the game is still open!> If it means Rc6 then Qxd5 wins.>

NO, <Qxd5> does not win. The <33 ... Rc6> move is not refuted by <34. Qxd5> because of <34 ... Qc2+ 35. Ka1 Qxc1+ 36. Rxc1 Rxc1 #>.

However, it was a 5' blitz, and I have no doubt that Karpov would have won the game even after this trap.

Oops, you're right.

Aug-30-21  PJs Studio: 30?d5(??) really?? What was Sosonko thinking?!
Aug-30-21  AlexPomor: 20.Nf5+
