Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-28-06  Maynard5: An interesting game, and a good example of how to play against the Benko gambit. White sacrifices several tempi, but obtains a solid position. Black then gives up his dark-square bishop to regain the gambit pawn. This leaves him weak on the dark squares, and White manages to fix all Black's pawns on the dark squares. This leaves open the possibility that White will eventually break through sacrificially, particularly after bringing the knight to f5. Topalov responds by forcing the exchange of White's dark-square bishop, but this leads to the loss of a pawn, and in due course, the game.
