Jun-14-05  Knight13: I don't like 8. Nbd2 because if Black plays 8... Ng4 and the active bishop is gone. You know that Bishops are better in open games.

Good game, thou.

Jun-14-05  aw1988: This is a) not (yet) an open game and b) after Ng4 white just plays Nf1 and recaptures with the knight, therefore securing it in a nice position.
Jun-14-05  Knight13: <b) after Ng4 white just plays Nf1 and recaptures with the knight, therefore securing it in a nice position.> I'll give White a nice position. But I control the dark-squares.
Jun-14-05  aw1988: What dark squares do you control?
Oct-07-08  Trigonometrist:

An elegant finish:

32... fxe3
33.♘f6+ ♔f8
34.♕h8+ ♔e7
35.♕xg7+ ♔e6
36.♗f7+ ♔e7
37.♗d5#

Jan-04-09  WhiteRook48: black'll be at least a piece down if white doesn't see the mate I mean the exchange down

Phony Benoni: This was from the last round at Hamburg, with Gunsberg on the verge of his first great success. If he wins, he finishes first; lose and he's sixth. (There was five-way tie for second.)

Gunsberg came through in fine style. Ten years later, when facing Pillsbury in the last round at Hastings, did he think wistfully of his own decisive game?
