Gypsy: Emil Richter: Quite perplexed, glosator ponders the chess value of this game. Oh shuks, why not, he decides: Dear reader you will now behold a picture of old times chess life in Prague as it was penned up by the witty editor of the chess column of "Sport a hry", <J.V. Stefanydes>:

<6.h3...> The foundations of White positions are solid. Its sudden collapse comes as the result of a too striking construction that follows.

<9.Bb5? Nd3+> "Did not see that," mutters Mr. Mortimer to himself. Others say such things aloud.

<10.Kf1> White decides not to surrender his Rh1!

<12...Qb5+> It seems that also this caught White as a surprise of sorts. By this time Mr. Duras' competitors would probably not hold it against Mr. Mortimer if he already decided to resign the game. But the friendly old gentleman is not the sort of chap that spoils a joke.

<19...Qb6> The threat is Qe3 and anihilation.

<23...Nxh1> Too much is too much; Rh1 was the very cornerpiece of White position.

White resignes.
