Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-17-09  computer chess guy: 25. ♘f1? (better was 25. ♘f3 preventing ♗h4).
Nov-13-11  DrMAL: White's 14.Rad1 was good centralizing move, but Chuky's counterplay starting with 14...b5 showed power of Najdorf defense. 17...e5 looks on the surface to simply create weakness on d5 but white Ns cannot maneuver to take advantage of this, and pair of pawns on a6 and b5 effectively hold back white's three Q-side pawns. This standoff led to much maneuvering where black used Sicilian exchange 22...Rxc3! to get lingering advantage through central pawns. 24...f5! to reinforce center was also strong, with slower maneuver 25.Nf1?! (instead of 25.Nf3 as noted above) white advantage after 25...Bh4! was probably already decisive. But 26.Rxe4?! (instead of 26.Ng3 back) added fuel to fire. DeFirmian played good game but Ivanchuk's counterplay was just too consistent and accurate, fabulous game for him!
