IMlday: No time trouble, White's opening is just unsound.
Jul-27-06  Maynard5: It seems that White's problems here are due to over-estimation of his attacking chances. Starting with 11. Rb5 and 12. Bh6, Spraggett makes a series of aggressive moves, which result in his pieces becoming misplaced. After the exchange with 15. Bxf6, White has given up the two bishops, while Black's defensive position on the kingside is impregnable. Arguably, White should have adopted a less aggressive approach around move 11, for instance centralizing his pieces with Be3, h3, followed by Nd4 and f4-f5. White still has the problem of an isolated c-pawn on an open file, but this overall approach to the game would probably have been better than the actual outcome.

  IMlday: <Maynard5> Yes, 11.Be3 Qc7 12.Nd4 a6 13.f4 e5 14.Nb3 was better play, but still, Black is better.

PawnSac: There are 32 Robatsch games played by Kevin Spraggett in the CG database; 9 with the white pieces, with a performance record +7 / -1 / =1 and 23 with the black pieces, and a performance record +8 / -8 / =7

This is Kevin's only white loss in the database

Dionysius1: There must have been a better reason why Spraggett allowed 38 Nc2 than an unsound opening. Even if he was losing anyway, that looks like an oversight. Wouldn't time trouble (at move 38 after all) explain it?
